Tajikistan's international routing options just got materially more diverse. In October 2025, Tajiktelecom signed an agreement with Pakistan's PTCL and Afghan Wireless to route traffic via Pakistan — a new southern path. Separately, a direct fibre connection to China has 108km laid as of September 2025, expected to reach the Chinese border by end 2026. A country previously dependent on Russia-transit for everything is actively building its way out. It's not finished yet — but the direction is clear.
The Connectivity Landscape
Tajikistan's carriers include Tajiktelecom (state incumbent), Tcell (operating TezNet fixed broadband via GPON), Megafon Tajikistan, Babilon-Mobile, and Zet-Mobile. For enterprise connectivity in Dushanbe, Tajiktelecom and Megafon Tajikistan are the primary providers with network reach for international business requirements.
Tajiktelecom expanded its fibre network by 536km in 2025 to 3,459km total, and developed TJ-IX — a national internet exchange point that improves domestic peering and reduces round-trip times for local traffic. Megafon Tajikistan upgraded backbone capacity tenfold on major inter-city routes and is building toward 5G in Dushanbe.
Data centre investment is arriving fast, driven by hydroelectric power at $0.03–0.05/kWh — some of the cheapest in Asia. In October 2025, a Tajik AI firm and India's Yotta Data Services announced the country's first hydro-powered AI data centre in Darvoz GBAO. In May 2025, Presight (UAE) and Scale AI (USA) agreed to build a national data centre in Dushanbe. Starlink was licensed in Tajikistan in late 2025 — relevant particularly for GBAO and mountainous locations where terrestrial fibre isn't viable.
No hyperscale cloud on-ramps operate in Tajikistan. Traffic routes externally — via Russia, Uzbekistan, or increasingly Pakistan, depending on carrier.
Our Approach
We don't have direct Tajikistan delivery experience. Our regional partner relationships across Central Asia give us access to the carrier relationships needed to quote and deliver here. For businesses with requirements across multiple Central Asian markets, Tajikistan can be part of a regional engagement alongside Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
Lead time for enterprise circuits in Dushanbe: 8–12 weeks. The new Pakistan and China routes are changing what's available — we're tracking what's operational versus what's been announced, and that distinction matters.
