Business Internet & Enterprise Connectivity in Malta
Malta is a small island with a genuine single-point-of-failure risk most enterprise buyers don't know about: four of its five submarine cables all land in Sicily. Lose Sicily, and most of Malta's international internet goes with it.

Malta is a small island with a genuine single-point-of-failure risk most enterprise buyers don't know about: four of its five submarine cables all land in Sicily. Lose Sicily, and most of Malta's international internet goes with it. GO PLC addressed this in March 2022 with the LaValette cable — part of the PEACE system — which provides GO customers with an alternative landing point and genuine route diversity away from Sicily. The Malta Communications Authority is studying further cable diversity. Not yet resolved, but actively being worked.
The Connectivity Landscape
GO PLC is our partner for enterprise connectivity in Malta — we work with them for nationwide coverage. GO has invested over €100 million in its True Fibre FTTH network, achieving nationwide coverage by end 2024. For enterprise DIA, GO provides data centre facilities, ICT solutions, cloud services, and managed services alongside connectivity. Melita is Malta's largest internet provider by subscribers, offering fibre-powered broadband up to 2.5Gbps and a purpose-built Tier III data centre in Bahar ic-Caghaq adjacent to its submarine cable landing station. Epic Malta (formerly Vodafone Malta) completes the main carrier picture with 5G and dedicated internet services.
Submarine cables: GO-1 Mediterranean, Italy-Malta (GO and Sparkle co-owned), EMSCS (Epic-owned), Melita 1 (Melita-owned) — all landing in Sicily. LaValette (GO, part of PEACE system, operational March 2022) — lands on Malta's West Coast, separate from Sicily. Malta's MCA is conducting a feasibility study for a cable to a further alternative landing point.
Data centres: BMIT is the largest multi-site DC operator in Malta (Qormi and SmartCity). Melita Data Centre (Tier III, Bahar ic-Caghaq). Heritage Malta is developing two new facilities expected operational September 2025.
