OS-IX (Oslo Internet Exchange) carries approximately 80% of Norway's internet traffic through a single carrier-neutral facility 7km from central Oslo. Sixty-plus carriers, four internet exchange points (NIX, FIXO, Netnod, DE-CIX), 14MW of renewable power, and direct cloud on-ramps to AWS and Azure. It's Norway's most connected data centre and a significant European interconnection hub. For enterprises needing low-latency connectivity to that infrastructure — or to the expanding North Sea digital corridor — Oslo is where we focus.

The Connectivity Landscape

Telenor is Norway's largest operator and growing its fibre footprint significantly — in July 2025 it acquired GlobalConnect's consumer fibre business in Norway, taking market share from 22% to 29% of fibre subscribers. Telia Norway became the first in Norway to launch commercial 5G Standalone (SA) nationwide in February 2026, enabling network slicing and sub-10ms latency for enterprise applications. Colt expanded its IQ Network to include Oslo PoPs from March 2023, providing up to 400Gb optical wave and 10Gb IP/Ethernet services.

Arelion (formerly Telia Carrier) runs the world's number one IP backbone (AS1299) and completed a new 750km fibre route from Oslo to Esbjerg, Denmark in 2022 — enhancing capacity and resilience for Norwegian-to-continental connections. The IOEMA cable (1,400km, connecting UK, Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, and Norway) provides a minimum overall capacity of 1.3Pb/s and connects into the N01 data centre in Kristiansand and onwards to Oslo.

Tampnet operates a North Sea submarine optical network originally built for oil and gas platforms — now extended to provide direct connections between western Norway and landing points in Denmark, Netherlands, and the UK. For energy sector clients with offshore connectivity requirements, Tampnet is worth knowing about.

What We Deliver in Norway

We start with your requirement, not a carrier list. Single circuit or dual? Active/active or active/passive resilience? Is carrier diversity a hard requirement? What's your lead time? Any vendor preferences? Once we understand that, we'll recommend the right 3–5 options for your specific address in Oslo. Our Nexus platform covers 2.5 billion buildings globally — we know what's serviceable before we make a recommendation. For energy sector clients, we have specific carrier knowledge covering the North Sea corridor. For clients combining Norway with Sweden, Denmark, or UK requirements, we manage the full footprint under one relationship. Lead time: 35 working days via Colt on-net in Oslo.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which carriers do you use in Norway?
We don't work from a fixed panel. We qualify your requirement first — resilience model, carrier diversity, whether high-capacity North Sea routing is relevant, lead time, vendor preferences — then recommend the right 3–5 carriers for your specific address. Telenor, Arelion and Colt are among the options in Norway, but carrier selection is driven by your requirement and location.

What is OS-IX and why does it matter?
OS-IX is Norway's most connected data centre — 60+ carriers, NIX + FIXO + Netnod + DE-CIX exchange points, and 80% of Norway's internet traffic. Connectivity into OS-IX gives you the best peering access in the country.

How long does delivery take?
35 working days via Colt on-net in Oslo.

Do you have connectivity options for North Sea offshore operations?
Yes — Tampnet's North Sea optical network serves offshore platforms and connects to Norway, Denmark, Netherlands, and the UK. We have carrier relationships relevant to energy sector requirements.
